During September and October Susan and I embarked on a tour of several midwestern and western states, driving in our 2000 Toyota Siena van(215,000 miles before our trip)a total of 7,279 miles through 13 states. We were gone 33 days and spent the night in 21 different places. When we got home it dawned on us that we had been together virtually 24/7 for the entire trip with no major disagreements and without growing tired of each other. I think our marriage of 41 years will last.

Monday September 26: Vernal UT

This morning we visited the Utah State Museum of Natural History where they have great exhibits of dinosaur bones (surprised?), plant and animal fossils, etc.

and bird.

After touring inside the museum we couldn’t resist posing with the animals outdoors.

After leaving the museum we drove north from Vernal to the Red Canyon Overlook of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir.  The river flowing through the canyon is the Green River which joins with the Colorado in southern Utah.  Although the cloudy day took away the red color of the canyon walls, it was beautiful nonetheless.  The canyon is about 1700 feet deep and 4000 feet across at this point.

While we were there a speedboat came through leaving interesting ripples in the water.
